Mottahedeh China
Mottahedeh China is the aristocracy of fine china. Exhibited in the finest museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Colonial Williamsburg, Winterthur, Monticello, and the National Trust, this exquisite chine has been the choice of Presidents, the State Department, and the Diplomatic Corps as well as discriminating homes around the world for decades. Mottahedeh China has been in production since the 17 Century and has set the standard ever since. One aspect that characterizes Mottahedeh China from others is purity of china pieces they turn out. High firing is facilitated by the addition of kaolin, resulting in extremely fine white, glassy, durable porcelain china. With the addition of bone ash, china makers produce not only consistent and faultless color, but a strong china with the translucency associated with the finest of china.
Another feature that sets Mottahedeh China apart is the unusual shapes. Plaster molds, handmade with the complexity of gothic architecture, result in complex and pleasing shapes; this technique dates back to the 18 and 19 Century. Color is another distinct feature of this china. Pure and beautiful colors produced from a 2000 year old process are fired onto each piece. Typically, Mottahedeh uses 16 colors on each design they create. Some unique and lovely decorations may incorporate up to 27 different colors; a rare quality in other china manufactures.
Finally, what attracts distinguished buyers to Mottahedeh China are the delicate and lovely china pieces they fashion. Whatever your taste, there are countless patterns to choose from. A new pattern, Apples, Berries, and Cherries is a fresh and elegant everyday china that will go from microwave to table to dishwasher, an uncharacteristic departure from their traditional china. This is a new design taking inspiration from an 1820 motif echoing Minton transferware. The French blue background is perfect for the country French trend in decorating and accessorizing today. Two revived antique patterns, Indigo Wave and Emerald Vine are new to the market and offer a truly rich and classic choice for discerning buyers.

Transferware Plate Date...?
I know a little bit about transferware plates and know the history of them. I recently went antiquing and found a blue and white transferware plate that has just "England" stamped on the back in blue and nothing else. There also seems to be a mark to the far left of it, or maybe just a ink dot. It is an oriental scene of a river scene and is mostly white in the inside area. Does anyone have any idea the date for this plate?
Thanks!
Yes, the word "England" is the key. This word was added to export items to the USA because of the McKinley Tariff Act of 1891. Pieces made before 1891, carried a shape (like a diamond, or sphere, etc, to indicate date), and in the mid 19th century, they had registration numbers affixed. But "England" only appears on transferware pieces manufactured between 1891 and 1903 and exported to the USA. After 1903, the words "Made in England" appeared.
