Got some space in your garden and a bit of cash for something a little different?

kilning the pottery?

so i got my daughter this pottery kit for christmas and we just made a few things with the pottery. and i was wondering if i could put it in the over to fire it? the oven gets to about 450-500 degrees. i know a kiln is much hotter and the proper way to do it, but if i left the pottery in for a longer time would it be a possible equivalent?

i can just find a pottery studio and have them fire it..... but just figured i see it if the oven method, would/could work.

first check to see if the clay dries on it own then i would not put it in the oven. but if u can i would not do it in the oven because of fumes and toxins from the glaze (glazes are made from some pretty nasty chemicals). also it could be a messy process to do in the oven. maybe check out a local ceramic shop where they have people paint pieces of ceramics and see if they are willing to do it.
