Let's Get Down to Business - (What to Bring to a Party!)
If you don't possess social graces then this guide is the ticket! This may not make you the king of the ball, but it's a start.
Have you ever been "that person" that arrives at a social event without a gift? You may not even consider a gift until you get there, and then you see what others have in tow. How can this be?
Please don't think of manners as a social rule to go against. Politeness and consideration go a long way to make a host feel good (and have another party.) It can never hurt to arrive with a gift. A lot of people bring wine, or liquor to a social gathering, but depending on the event, it's not always the best choice. Another way to go would be to bring some high end, gourmet coffee, preferably Fair Trade organic coffee. If you like the idea of bringing something to drink and wine or coffee aren't what you have in mind, then seasonal fruit drinks from local produce stands are the next best stand in. If you aren't near fruit stands, and you aren't sure what to get, the last choice for the drink category is fruit teas. Almost anyone loves fruit teas. Low or no caffeine, they can fit into every meal and be blended with regular teas to make delicious flavored iced tea without adding calories. Right now, Constant Comment Raspberry is making it's way into every batch of iced tea that I create.
Now that we've covered drinks, lets go to solids. The healthy choice is a vegetable offering with a creamy dipping sauce. Arrange the snack on a nice, inexpensive serving dish. These are readily obtained at thrift stores, chain retail outlets, and antique stores. If you ever come across a good deal on serving trays, stock up for future events. Enclose a card with a well thought out "thank you for the party".
Finally, if you don't want to bring food or drink, then choose an item the couple, or family would enjoy together. A bouquet of flowers, a set of handmade cards, personalized pottery, picture frame, or a set of candles, are a few relatively simple gifts that can all be purchased for less than $10.00. It is always best to avoid hard alcohol, pictures of yourselves (unless you are attending a family event), and work related items. Remember, no gift is complete without your hand written, and lovingly autographed card. Not only is it a good idea, but it cements the fact that you did bring an offering!
Perhaps you're still thinking it difficult to think of a gift, then go check out the coffee gifts from Nectar of Life Coffee. Nectar of Life is my favorite coffee roaster and they have the best Fair Trade coffee.

Vintage Dishes-Winterling?
My sister gave me a vintage coffee/tea pot with lid and sugar dish with lid. It sits on a serving tray. The pieces are orange with brown lids and the serving tray is brown. The bottom has a gold label that says "Winterling Feinkeramik, Germany" with a "W" with a crown over it as well as a "W" in the pottery itself. It feels like it is made from ceramic and does have a couple knicks on the pieces. Anybody know anything about the company or worth of this piece??
Here are some resources and winterling history. http://www.porcelainmarksandmore.com/rhineland/muehlbach_1/00.php
