Are there any rules about a company charging for shipping when I request to pick up the item? I?

Went to purchase an item at Pottery Barn- which I can pick up- they want $150 for delivery and $89.95 for handling. They say that I have to pay for this regardless- so price of item is actually almost $250 more then listed price. Is this tactic legal?

There is a good chance that this item is being shipped from another location and is not in stock. In that case, the company would charge for shipping and handling. Many companies drop ship items now instead of warehousing them and keeping items in inventory.

It is legal for a company to charge you whatever they wish as far as shipping and handling. It is up to you to determine whether or not you want to deal with them.
