Decorating With Wrought Iron (Part IV) The Dining Room

The dining room is one of the more important rooms in any home. In a way, it is not just the place where people eat but it is also where they gather to bond with their friends and family. In fact, if you have noticed, some of the guests prefer to sit down and start sharing their stories, jokes and words of wisdom right after dinner or during dessert.

As such, it is very important for every dining room to be warm, comfortable and cozy. In one word, it needs to be very homey. So how exactly do you achieve that? Here are some tips and ideas for you to work on.

1. Lighting
The dining room is one of the spaces that do not have to be too bright. You just need enough light for you and your guests to see the food, utensils and other condiments properly.

A small chandelier with a faint yellow light, or lit candles that are either put on candelabras or wall sconces are interesting lighting pieces that you can add to your room. Candles are perfect for the dining room as they can neutralize the smell of food and keep insects away from them.

2. Proper Combination of Elements
If you are trying to achieve the more “cozy” dining room, then you may want to play with the combination of wrought iron decors and the deep rich tint of wood. To emphasize their union further, you can also choose a wall color that borders along the shades of warm yellow, red and/or the combination of both.

3. Accessories
You can keep the accessories minimal but eye catching. Here are a couple of items are sure to wow your guests.

a. For the centerpiece, you can choose a set of decorative candelabras or table runners. These pieces will not only serve as decors but they can be handy if you want to set up a romantic candle light dinner.

b. For the walls, you can choose the bigger metal wall grilles with a classical design that complement your other accessories. Here is a tip, if you plan to put wrought iron decors in your dining room, limit to designs or patterns that are connected to food and ingredients like grapes, pears and vegetables.

c. Look for decorative wrought iron napkin, salt and pepper shaker holders that complement your main theme. Here is the trick, if you cannot find a custom made rack for your salt and pepper shakers, you can always improvise by using tabletop holders for pillars and/ or rectangular multi – wicked candles.

4. Again, finish it off by putting appropriate draperies, a vase of cut flowers, ornamental plants or edible herbs like peppermint or rosemary.

5. When you are done, scratch the dining off your list and be ready to work on the bathroom next.

When filling salt/pepper shakers does salt go in the shaker with more or less holes?

Salt goes in the one with less because pepper is bigger and harder to get out so it needs more holes to pass through.
