Technological Advances in Television Sets
Understanding how the television got its start can shed quite a bit of light on the technological advances that have taken place and continue to happen with television sets. The history of the television set dates back to the early 1900s when listening to programs, commercials and the like was made possible by radio alone. Back then, the first television sets were modified radios with a picture tube that allow for a viewing image to be shown on a screen. By today’s standards, it was, at best crude.
Still, the first televisions sets were just over $100, which was a lot of money back then. Fewer people bought these new picture boxes because most people couldn’t afford them. Today, television sets come in many varieties and price ranges are wide enough to cater to virtually any budget, making them a household item in homes around the world.
Originally, television sets lack color and quality sound and were contingent upon an antenna that was attached to the set itself as well as an antenna that was on top of the house. Technological advances in television sets have resulted in sets of many different designs and a wealth of features.
Some of the basic advances that are available on virtually all modern television sets include inputs for all of your devices such as video games, headphones, cable, DVD players and other audio devices. Many of the high end sets also have USB and Ethernet ports that allow you to connect directly to the Internet, your computer and other types of video peripherals. Most modern television sets also come with a remote control that allows you to program all of your devices for remote access from the control.
When it comes to the display, the technology that continues to arrive is nothing short of amazing. High definition (HD), liquid crystal display (LCD), Plasma, light emitting diode (LED), digital light processing (DLP) and organic light emitting diode (OLED). These display technologies represent significant advances in television sets. Television viewing has never before provided the crystal clarity and lifelike visual performance that these sets offer.
Additionally, the high performance that’s packed into these advanced television sets can be selected in model types such as wall mounted, pedestal stands, wide screen, flat screen, flat panels, projection screen and more. Those who wish to indulge in viewing pleasure without price consideration can have any modern television installed or mounted in any room or space inside or outside the home.
With the addition of cable, satellite and the Internet, television sets have evolved into much more than just a means to watch local programming. Today’s modern sets are capable of connection to a variety of devices and with satellite options; programming from around the world can be right at your fingertips. Gone are the days of television monotony or boredom with selections. Thanks to the continued technological advances in television sets, the only limitations are those we choose for watching. As the advances continue, television sets are sure to stay in the running near the top of the list for viewing entertainment.

refinishing/repainting an old dining room set?
I was given an old dining room set (a Thomasville 1968) by a family member, and though it's an outdated style... I'd like to give it a face lift before I chuck it for a new set. I plan to cut down the backs of the chairs some and upholster the whole chair with micro fiber(minus the legs). I'd like to paint the pedestal table and china cabinet but don't know what to use to get a decent, rich finish. I had asked a professional what it would cost to strip the table and china cabinet down from its old finish (looks to be an oak finish)... and restain with cherry or mahogony. He said min. $1600... at that rate I would rather buy a new set.
What products can I use to paint over the wood? I'm willing to do some light sanding. Is there a product that I can use that can go over old stain/varnish that provides a rich finish? Please be specific and offer as many options as possible. Would love to hear from a proffesional on this matter.
MIN WAX PRODUCTS....THEY CARRY A WHOLE LINE OF STAINS AND FINISHES.....THEY ARE THE ONES WITH THE BRIGHT YELLOW LABELS.....YOU DO NOT HAVE TO COMPLETELY SAND JUST ROUGH UP A MITE WITH SEMI FINE SANDPAPER....THE BEST WAY TO GET A PRO LOOK IS TO TAKE A TAC CLOTH OVER IT BEFORE APPLYING THE FINAL CLEAR POLYURETHANE AND THEN AFTER THE POLYURETHANE DRIES....TAKE A REALLY SOFT OLD SWEAT SHIRT AND RUB.....ALOT IT GIVES IT A PANTINE LIKE NEW FROM THE FURN STORE.
