History of Corbett National Park

Established in 1936 as India’s first national park. Corbett in famous for its wide range of wildlife and its gorgeous location in the foothills of the Himalayas by the Ramganga river. With the current addition of the sonanadi wildlife sanctuary to the west, Corbett has grown from 520 to 1318 sq km.

It may seem out of place for a national park to be named after famous for this book “the Man-Eaters of kumaon”, and was greatly revered by local people for shooting tigers that had developed a liking for human flesh. However, he was instrumental in setting up the reserve and eventually shot more wildlife with his camera than with his gun.

Corbett National park famous hunting place for the British, the Corbett National Park was named in tribute of the late Jim Corbett. Jim Corbett was a famous hunter-naturalist turned photographer and author. Jim Corbett spent most of time in this region and contributed in setting up the park.

The Corbett National Park is placed in the foothills of the great Himalayas in the state of Uttaranchal in India. The Corbett National Park is home to several of flora and fauna. It is well-known for its wild population of Elephants Tigers and Leopards.

There are also crocodiles, the odd-looking gavial or gharial (a thin- snouted, flish-eating crocodile often spotted from High Bank), monitor lizards, wild boars and jackals. Leopards (referred to as panthers in india) are occasionally seen.

Black Panther or Black Puma?

Can anyone tell me were in the uk, Zoo or Safari park i could see a Black Panther or Black Puma? My favourite Big Cat.

As far as I know, there's nowhere you can see a black puma - melanism is extremely rare in this species. There is definitely a black panther (melanistic leopard) at Linton Zoo and one at Thrigby Hall Wildlife Park, and there is a melanistic jaguar, which are also called panthers by some people, at Paradise Wildlife Park. I'm sure there are more, these are just ones I've seen myself. If you look up the websites of any zoos near you, they should tell you what animals they have.
