Help - nexus lighting - ceiling light semi flush 3 bulb with glass shades?

hi - i bought this ceiling light a while ago (never even used it) and thought as a gift/new flat warming present i would give it to a friend to help her out - i have fitted the light connected to the electricity all great and wonderful but now cant fit the glass shades lol - seriously has anyone got any ideas ? the lamp(bulb) holder is a plastic fixed feature but doesn't have an outer screw thread to fit a retainer to hold glass shade - it comes supplied with a tool that looks similair to a spark plug socket but with two opposing channels cut out - the instructions being so useful say " use tool when fitting shade" but not how or any inclination of how !!!!!!
