Historical Re-Enactment Societies?

I'd like to join one and take part but google is like a black hole with lots of unecessary sites, irrelevant sites and pop ups.

What I need is:

1) A Historical Re-enactment society in Staffordshire or the West Midlands
2) Time frame - any but for some reason , not the english civil war or the 20th century
3) decent websites where i can get the equipment i would need for this.

Start by calling up your town (or Staffordshire, etc.) on Google Maps and right click to get Search Nearby. Then put in 'reenactors' and it will pull up some by distance from that spot. Then you can work on available periods that the groups support. Once you have focused on a period, then you can look for web sites that sell parts for that period as well as talking to the members about where to get stuff. Depending on the period you pick, you may find that people (or their wives) make their own uniforms/costumes and equipment. Most widely known are battle reenactors. If you go back to Renaissance times, then much of it is like playacting and the Society for Creative Anachronism where some people do serious research on how things could have been done.
