Tad bit of rust on vintage childs chair,what can I use to get rid of it and prevent it from rusting even more?

It depends a lot on how much damage there is and what kind of surface it's on. Painted? Chrome?

One way is to lightly brush the rust area with a wire brush, and then coat with WD40. The WD40 will fill the pores and keep any more rust from forming.... But I wouldn't try this on chrome, since it will scratch it. It could be used on painted surfaces though - though you may need to re-paint.

If the rust is on chrome, dip a piece of crumpled aluminum foil in coke and scrub over the area.

You might want to ask your local hardware store for help, and see what else they can recommend.
