Your Holidays in Malta
Prior to going on your long deserved Malta holiday, it may be a good idea to do a little bit of research and check the island out before you get there.
If you are going to be venturing from a fairly far distance, say from the US, Canada or Australia, then your travelling times will most likely vary a lot.
For those of you that are going to be making the journey from within Europe, then you will probably find that you will get to the island in around three hours. That is if you are going to be flying, obviously going by sea will add quite a few extra hours on that time.
Although your holidays in Malta will be enjoyed no matter what language you speak, you will find it much easier to get around the island if you can speak English.
If you are wondering what your weather will be like when you arrive, it is going to be great for most of the year, although if you do not like it really hot, you would be best advised to maybe try either side of the summer months, when it is a bit milder.
The Islands of Malta situated in the central Mediterranean Sea have only three large islands that are inhabited, with Malta Island being the most popular. You will find sunshine almost all year long enabling enjoyment of the spectacular beaches, safe bathing bays, the Blue Grotto, and other outdoor life.
At the other extreme is touring historical artifacts that will greet you everywhere you look. Some archaeological sites are older than the Pyramids!
Approximately 7,000 years of history are still evident in the temples, fortified cities, museums with a wide variety of treasures, palaces, cathedrals, 364 churches, watchtowers, and unique villages. The old capital of Mdina is on one of the highest hills and is a medieval town.
Some of the awesome gardens stem from the days of being part of the grounds for palaces and the palatial homes of rulers and go back to the 1600's. Many give a grand view of the Grand Harbour.
The capital city of Malta is Valletta, which is a World Heritage Site. Former palaces have been made into museums such as the National Museum of Archaeology with prehistoric collections going back to 5200 BC and including temple carvings, animal and human figurines and statuettes, pottery, and ornaments.
Explore the Grandmaster's Palace Armoury Museum, which has full suits of armour, guns, and cannons from the 15th century.
The National Museum of Fine Arts features paintings and sculptures along with silverware and silver snuffboxes.
When you are taking your Malta holidays, there are many cultural events that occur year round, such as an International Jazz Festival, Opera Festival, Arts Festival, Christmas Pantomime, music concerts, bands, classical music, and performing arts at the 18rh century National Theater. Historical parades and multi-vision shows take you back in time.
If you are somewhat of a sporty type, you can find water sports, rock climbing, and hiking throughout the islands for those looking for healthy pursuits and exercising.
There are some nice local dishes that you should try, consisting of, rabbit stew, some lovely fresh fish dishes and if you like to experiment there are also some fine multicultural dishes.

Helping 5th grader with simple fractions?
Im helping a 5th grader with simple fractions and I forgot how to do them. Please help. Show the work also. Here are the problems:
1) After Shelley spend 1/2 of her money on a hot dog, 1/6 on a drink, and $1 for popcorn, she had no money left. How much did Shelley spend altogether?
2). Ted has a stamp collection. 1/5 of his stamps are from Canada, 1/5 are from Spain, and 15 are from other countries. How many stamps are in his collection?
3). Ann's art class worked on projects. 3/8 of the class did paintings, 1/4 did charcoal sketches, and 1 made pottery. How many students are there in Ann's art class?
4). After Ryan spend 1/3 of his money on a CD and 1/6 of it on a poster, he had $15.00 left. How much money did Ryan spend on the CD and poster?
Much thanks and appreciation!
Can you show the work please?
Question #3 is copied correct
1 )1 / 2 + 1 / 6 = 3 / 6 + 1 / 6 = 4 / 6, which is equal to 2 / 3
So, so far she has spent 2 / 3 of her money and must hae 1 / 3 left.
The $1 therefore represents 1/3 of the money she started out with.
If $1 is 1 / 3, then the other 2 / 3 amounts to $2.
She must have spent $3 altogether.
2 ) 1 / 5 + 1 / 5 = 2 / 5
2 / 5 are from Canada and Spain, therefore 3 / 5 are from other countries.
So 3 / 5 = 15
15 represents 3 x (1 / 5), so (1 / 5) must be 15 / 3 = 5
So 5 is 1 / 5 of his stamps, therefore altogether he has 5 x 5 = 25
3 ) 3 / 8 + 1 / 4 = 3 / 8 + 2 / 8 = 5 / 8
Think about these proportions form a moment. If 3 / 8 of the students did paintings, then there must have been at least 8 students (otherwise there couldn't have been a fraction of 3 /
Of course, there could have been 16, or 24, or 32 students (or more), and you could still have had a fraction of 3 / 8 of them.
But the least number of students there could have been is 8. If one made pottery, that makes 4 / 8 = 1 / 2 of the students on the projects we know about. There would be another 4 that we don't know about.
4 )1 / 3 + 1 / 6 = 2 / 6 + 1 / 6 = 3 / 6, which is the same as 1 / 2
He spent half of his money altogether, so he must have had half left.
If $15 represents half, then he must have started off with $30.
1 / 3 of $30 is $10, so the CD cost $10.
1 / 6 of $30 is $5, so he spent $5 on the poster.
