Boxer Dog Obedience Training
Boxer Dog Obedience Training
- The Boxer dog by it's nature is very passionate and also very powerful.
- How do you harness the powerful and passionate boxer - without upsetting the owner.
- As an owner you need to understand and harness the courage, reliability and the loyalty of the boxer dog.
You need to learn that a boxer dog maybe stubborn but they are also keen to learn - but you need to start early.
- A Boxer dog can make an excellent watchdog - due to the fact that they will not back down from anything.
- They also make excellent family pets as they get on extremely well with children.
- A Boxer dog is also an energetic breed so will need allot of exercise and encouragement - so a boxer dog will get you fit if nothing else.
- With this in mind you need to make sure that you have time to walk and exercise your dog - otherwise you are asking for behavior and obedience problems in the future.
So How do you Train a Boxer Dog?
- You need to remember how stubborn the Boxer is as a breed and learn to work with this.
- The most important aspect of training your boxer dog is - START EARLY.
One of the main components of boxer dog training is to start socializing the boxer dog as a puppy - EARLY.
- A boxer puppies socialization starts at about 14 weeks - start the training early.
- The more your boxer dog/puppy sees/hears/touches and tastes at this point in a boxer's life is vitally important.
- This is a very important fact that many people forget when training a boxer - they are excellent family points but they need to be introduced very early to family and especially children.
- There is no point in having a boxer dog and introducing him to children in later life - and expect him to be well behaved - it just won't work unless you introduce him very early to children.
- Boxer dogs can become nervous - it's proven that if boxer dogs are not introduced early to everyday activities such as traffic - they can become nervous and fearful.
- This is vital as we know that nervous and fearful dogs can become aggressive and have obedience and behavior problems

My boxer dog is having problems. Do you know what i could do?
So my dog is of the boxer breed and he is pretty old for a boxer. His name is Bruno and he's 11. Anyway so his back half is starting to not work so well and he falls sorta and slips when walking. we have taken him to the vet and the doctor said that happens where the back half gets paralyzed but the mind and everything stays good. i was just wondering if any other owners have had this problem and if they know anything i can do to help him.
Hi there!
Sorry to hear about your boxer. I just want to offer you some ideas that might help his joints/stiffness issues.
1. Fish liver oil. You can get this in capsule form, my dogs think it is a treat. It helps to lubricate the joints, making them move easier (like oiling a squeaky hinge)
2. Glucosamine/Condroitin/MSM supplement. There is one called Cosequin made especially for dogs. These ingredients help arthritic joints or anything with inflammation. For example, the type of paralysis he is experiencing can be caused by a pinched nerve in his lower back. If this is the case, the pinched nerve is a result of inflammation (swelling) in that specific area. Reducing that swelling will help "unpinch" the nerve, so to speak.
3. Massage. This sounds sorta silly, but animals like massage as much as people do. I massage my boxers' hips and legs. Keeps them loose, and less prone to injury.
4. make sure he drinks a ton of fresh water, and GOOD wholesome food (no corn or animal by-products).
Good luck! May your dog live a much longer life. We just had to put one of our boxers down, she was almost 14 years old. The average boxer's lifespan is 10-12 years and it sounds like your guy has lived a pretty good life! Make his last few years good as well!
p.s. with today's turbulent economy, I want to mention that the supplements I listed above are not very expensive. So don't let that be hesitation in you trying them out. AND... if by chance it is a totally different thing wrong with your boxer, giving him those supplements will not harm him in any way.
