I m planning to purchase a subdued navy blue pinstripe blazer to go with dark jeans or beige pants. Any thots

Should navy blue pinstripe blazers only go with matching pants? or can i pair it with dark blue jeans and other light colored (e.g. grey, beige) pants? Thanks much for any advice..
A couple of sales persons have remarked that subdued navy pintstripe blazers should go with matching pants i.e. anything else, e.g. jeans, beige pants would look out of place..
is that true?

What I'm thinking is that if you get the blue pinstripe blazer, that dark jeans would go fine, as long as they're about the same colour. My other thought is that it would go okay with beige pants, but it wouldn't be amazing. I think that if you can afford matching pinstipe pants, then I would go for it, but if you can't, just get some nice dark pants, or dark jeans. I was just thinking, grey would actually be pretty nice. It's hard to go wrong with a navy pinstripe blazer. One more thing: May I ask what this outfit is for?
