I love them both and find them to be very beautiful, and they also have nicknames (Dora, Dorie, Dot, Dottie - for Dorothy, and Edie for Edith) that could modernize them for today.

I didn't think myself that they would work on a child until I met a little Dorothy and now the name fascinates me!

Dorothy is my boyfriend's mother's name, so it's started to grow on me! I can imagine it coming back into fashion. I've always quite liked the name Deborah even though it's a little dated, and I class Dorothy as the same kind of style. It's lively and interesting.

I love the nickname Dora (although I prefer it for Isadora!) and Dot is cute too.

Edith is my auntie's name, and she goes by Edie too... I'm not so sure about it, I like old fashioned names but this one doesn't really appeal to me as a name for a child today. It's sweet and soft sounding, but I just associate it with my auntie who's in her 80s!

Between the two, I definitely prefer Dorothy.
