Need Help with Centerpieces For my tables?
Ok So Im getting married in Aug, 2010 And my colors are burnt orange and burgundy. I want a lot of candlelit due to its a outdoor night wedding reception but i cant seem to find the right centerpieces for my tables. I want to use canning jars because our theme is a country garden. But I really don't know what to do that would look good. im using Small baskets on the tables and putting candy in it. So i need something that would be cheap to DIY but that would look good with the little baskets. They are dark brown with a handle. They are really cute. i was thinking of putting candles in the jars but not really sure how that would look. So i would love some help. Im going crazy trying to figure out what to do.
Mason jar with a ribbon around the lip. 2"-3" diameter candle in it, 8"-10" tall if you can afford it. White is usually cheapest.
Since you have plenty of time between now and August to shop the sales...Try to get a matching basket (no handle over the flame, of course!) for the mason jars. You could put oasis (that green floral foam) in the baskets, around the jar, or elevating it, your choice. garden flowers in the oasis. (If you can't find baskets without handles, just trim/cut them off!
I've seen 6 packs of oasis blocks regularly on sale for $2.99.
Flowers...well, you could wet the oasis (you soak it overnight) and line the baskets with plastic to prevent leaks and pick local wildflowers, etc, OR, (my preference) lots of silk flowers go on sale around now. To me they are the ideal choice because you can make the baskets up way ahead of time (cutting down on pre-event stress!!). This allows each basket to be identical, or at least similar, and you won't have to worry about wilting or short supply of your desired flowers! (If you don't find any silk flowers the right colors for you in the spring, look for the sale colors to change in the pre-summer (June) and pre-fall (August) sales.
So, watch your seasonal sales. After Valentines day very often chain stores will put all their red and white candles on clearance because they don't normally carry them...Same thing after Easter. So you may be able the pick up burgundy candles and candy (for favors) after Valentines, and possibly burnt orange after Easter (although pastels are more likely!)
You might also want to watch the after valentines sales for wedding party gifts. Valentines things are often very wedding-y!
Also remember...there are pre-season and post-season sales. Of course the post-season prices are the lowest, as stores do NOT want to store product for the next year, but pre-season (cutting the prices to get people in, or at least thinking about ideas for an upcoming season) are good, too...in the first week. Also, so stores put one item only discount coupons in their ads. Get all you can. You and your bridesmaids can each buy one of what you need, or you can go through the line at a different register, or (at a chain store) you could go to an additional location! Shop SMART!!!
